A premier equestrian business focused on training, producing, and selling top-level Eventing horses as well as boarding and training services to both competitive riders and aspiring athletes. Through extensive expertise in horse training, competition, and rider development, Alexandra Baugh Equestrian operates at a high standard, offering a full range of services that includes horse sales, competition support, and custom training programs.
Alexandra “Alex” Baugh is a dedicated three-day eventer based in Lexington, Kentucky. Her passion for riding began at the age of four, when she convinced her parents to enroll her in riding lessons, a decision she has never regretted. Initially starting in Saddle Seat, Alex’s enthusiasm for Eventing ignited when her grandmother introduced her to the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, where she was immediately captivated by the sport.
Quickly ascending the ranks, Alex established herself as a skilled Young Rider with aspirations of representing Team USA on the world stage. From 2017 to 2021, she immersed herself in the highest levels of horsemanship and show jumping under the guidance of esteemed coaches Joanie Morris and Richard Picken. This period of education not only honed her riding skills but also deepened her understanding for the bio-mechanics of jumping and the rules of physics in relation to riding and course design. Within just one year of their mentorship, Alex secured her first two FEI victories and earned Individual Gold and Team Silver at the 2018 NAJYRC. Her achievements led to her selection for the USEF E18 and U25 programs, which she has consistently been a part of since 2018.
In addition to her time with Joanie Morris and Richard Picken, Alex gained
valuable experience working for Phillip Dutton, where she learned the inner workings of a large-scale equestrian facility. Today, Alex runs her own business out of her family’s Altorac Farm in Lexington, KY, offering lessons, boarding, clinics, training horses and offering sales horses.
Her philosophy on horsemanship emphasizes the utmost care for the horse, a principle she holds dearly in all aspects of her work. With ambitious goals to compete at the highest levels of the sport and represent Team USA in Championships, World Equestrian Games, and the Olympics, Alex is in the process of building out a string of horses and growing her business. Her commitment to both the sport and the well-being of the horse defines her journey.
As the owner and head trainer at Alexandra Baugh Equestrian, Alex is committed to developing horses and riders with the same care and respect that initially ignited her passion for the sport. Alex believes that true success in eventing comes from the relationship between the horse and rider—built on trust, respect, and communication. She is a firm advocate for positive, encouraging training methods that are both effective and humane. Whether working with a young horse starting their training or an experienced competitor aiming for a higher level, Alex focuses on creating an environment that fosters confidence, growth, and long-term success.
Her training philosophy centers on horsemanship—putting the horse's well-being and mindset at the forefront of every lesson, every ride, and every competition. “There’s always a way to train that encourages the horse,” she says, believing that horses respond best when they feel supported, understood, and motivated by positive reinforcement.

‘Hubert’ is known to his friends as Frenchie. He’s an 11-year-old Belgium Sport horse raised in France. With a larger-than-life personality he struggles to fit it all in his shoes. Currently competing at the 3*/Advanced level in Eventing, he’s got some big hopes and dreams. He’s been voted most likely to be found trying to sneak into the feed room. If Frenchie were a person, you’d most likely find him admiring himself in the mirror and fixing his hair. He’s always up for a party and would be talking to everyone he sees.
If ever a horse lived up to his nickname, it’s Dream Worker. Affectionately also known as “McDreamy” or “Derek” around the barn, after the Patrick Dempsey character Derek Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy. With his undeniable talent, charm, and just the right amount of star power, he’s already making a name for himself in the U.S. Eventing scene. Winning his first three events since arriving, and there’s a lot more to come. Much like his Greys Anatomy namesake, Dreamer has an effortless charisma and a competitive edge that makes him stand out in any crowd.
A horse with all the makings of a top competitor, Dreamer combines scope, bravery, and elegance with a work ethic that matches his name. We believe he has what it takes to reach the pinnacle of the sport, and we can’t wait to see where the journey takes him!
‘Mango’ a retired former Team USA gold medalist and 4* event horse, he lives his days now grazing in the field with his friends. A former 2011 Pan American Games Team Gold Medalist for the USA with Shannon Lilly, Mango then competed successfully at the 4* level with Michael Pollard before being purchased by the Baugh Family. Mango was vital in starting Alexandra’s ‘Alex’s’ career. Taking her from Prelim to the start of her first Advanced, Mango was truly the horse of a lifetime. Their most notable achievement was winning Individual Gold at the 2018 North American Junior Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC). Mango being a bit of a foodie can be found in his grazing muzzle bossing all of his field mates around.
“Elmo” to his friends is also a retired former 4* event horse. Elmo competed successfully at the 4* level with Phillip Dutton with several 4* wins including the 4*-Long at Fair Hill International. Purchased by the Baugh family in 2017, Elmo was Alex’s first Advanced horse and helped create a solid foundation in her education. Elmo was vital in introducing Alex to the top of the sport, including aiding her in winning the 2021 USEA Young Rider of the Year and Advanced Young Adult rider of the year. Known for being quite aware of his surroundings, you’d never be able to sneak anything past Elmo. You can find him standing next to a friend in the field and he would be the first to sound the alarm is something were to be wrong.
Miss Kitty Mae is a thoroughbred mare out of world famous, black type champion turf stallion Kitten’s Joy and Snooze, who’s dam side is Grade 1 black type stakes winners. Miss Kitty is our first brood mare and brings a lot of blood with high knee action. She is a sweet heart and passes on her incredible disposition, just like all the Kitten’s Joy offspring. Miss Kitty is a fantastic Momma and is good natured and loving with her foals but keeps them in line and doesn’t put up with any shenanigans. She refuses treats, as any good race horse would, but loves her grain and a good currying.
Towne Kat (Cutter) is a 2024 thoroughbred colt out of the black type Thoroughbred sprinter, Echo Town and Miss Kitty Mae. Cutter is the spitting image of his sire but with the long legs of his Dam. He is inquisitive, follows anyone around the paddock like a puppy dog, already loves treats and is spoiled with love. He will run up to the fence to come see you any time you call his name. Cutter is very well mannered, brave and doesn’t seem to be afraid of anything. He can rip through the fields and outruns Mango and Elmo with glee. We look forward to this colts future and can’t wait to see what he will do!
Alexandra Baugh Equestrian engages in the sale of top-quality Eventing horses, focusing on matching horses with suitable riders to create long-term, successful partnerships.
Ivanka is an 8 year old Zangersheide mare, currently competing at the training level with scope and ability to easily continue to the upper levels. She is the complete package- athletic, intelligent, and undeniably classy. This talented mare combines scope, bravery, and carefulness, making her a serious prospect for a competitive rider looking to excel in Eventing or show jumping. With her elegant way of going and keen attitude, she’s a joy to develop and always gives 100% in the ring.
She’s the ideal horse for a competitive young rider or professional to develop to the top of the sport. She lives for the cross country and never shy’s from anything.
